The company was formed with a focus on trading in building products, furniture as well as investment in related areas. Initially trading in a limited variety of building materials such as tiles and sanitary ware, including furniture were started in one shop. In 1996 a specialized furniture showroom was opened while the building products outlet was expanded with addition of new products some of which were under dealership agreements. Some of the products the company started dealing at that time were COTTO brand sanitary ware from Thailand and BORAL ceiling and partition system of Australia. The company was also marketing roofing products of BHP Building Products Pvt Ltd of Singapore, a company of BHP Australia, presently known as BlueScope Steel . At present Rainbow Enterprises is a major player in the supply of variety of roofing products to Maldivian market manufactured by Maldives Structural Products Pvt Ltd, (formed in 2000) a joint venture company of Rainbow Enterprises and State Trading Organisation Plc. Maldives Structural Products is the authorized importer of BlueScope Steel’s Colorbond and Zincalume coils which are roll formed in its factory in the industrial island of Thilafushi near Male’.

Similar to building products, marketing of furniture was given a high priority. Therefore in the year 2000 Rainbow Office System was opened while Rainbow Furniture is specialized in household furniture. In the office furniture area, consultancy, supply and installation of aluminium fabric partition was started in 2000 and today Rainbow Enterprises is one of the market leaders in the area of household and office furniture in the Maldives.

Therefore during the past twelve years Rainbow Enterprises has added more products to its furniture as well as building products range and has six shops in Male’ and one in the island of Thinadoo, the capital of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The company is also marketing its products to outer islands through sub dealers. The company has also diversified its business by investing in areas such as construction, aluminium fabrication and installation, manufacture of roofing products, travel and computer software business. Therefore with the development of a wide product base and associated companies that support the construction industry, RAINBOW GROUP with its payoff line “ONE STOP BUILDING SOLUTION” was registered in 2004. With this corporate strategy Rainbow Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., plans to be a key partner in the fast growing building and construction industry of Maldives. At the same time Rainbow Enterprises will continue to diversify into new businesses that will be part of the growing economy of Maldives.
